The Ministry for Children and Family Development is one of the largest ministries in the BC Government. Its primary roles are to assist individuals and/or families in need and to ensure the safety and/or well-being of children. These services are provided during week days and after normal working hours or on weekends, or statutory holidays, through “After Hours”. The Ministry operates an “After Hours” service on a 24 hours, 7 days per week shift schedule throughout the Province.

We are looking for dynamic individuals who are devoted to helping others and improving the lives and wellbeing of children and families. When you pursue a career as a Child Protection Worker, you are choosing a meaningful role in supporting the lives of British Columbians.

In this Child Protection Worker position, you work with a mindset of curiosity and respect to recognize the strengths and needs of children, youth and families. This position may occasionally involve exposure to situations involving angry, abusive, or abused clients and stressful situations and complex cases arising out of domestic disputes and child protection needs, therefore, you are agile and flexible in your responses to needs, focusing on the strengths of individuals, families, communities and cultures. The individual must be able to work independently, while handling crises and situations that are potentially explosive.

This outside of core hours and overnight positions provide emergency social services to individuals and families, after hours during the week, on weekends and statutory holidays. The primary roles of the position are to ensure the safety and/or well-being of children who are at risk and to support individuals and families in need. The Child Protection Social Worker, After Hours, works through crisis intervention and dispute stabilisation to resolve situations. The Child Protection Social Worker, both during weekdays and outside of core hours, reports to a team supervisor, who in turn reports to a Director at Provincial Central Screening.

Current shift opportunities at Provincial Centralized Screening:

Rotating shift pattern: 4 days on, 3 off/ 8.75 hours per shift (Meal break is paid)

The shift patterns include Evening and Weekend shifts. Examples of start and end times are: 6:00 am to 2:45 pm, 08:00 am to 4:45 pm., 4:00 pm to 12:45 am, or 6:00 pm to 2:45 am, 8:00 pm to 4:45 am, 10:00 pm to 6:45 am, 11:00 pm to 7:45 am.
