The Senior Titles and Mines Inspector provides support to the Mineral Titles Branch and the Mine Health, Safety and Permitting Branches primarily in supervising and conducting field inspections of mineral and coal titles, as well as inspections of exploration and mine sites. The Senior Inspector coordinates recommendations to the Chief Gold Commissioner for a number of administrative decisions under the Mineral Tenure Act and Coal Act. The Senior Inspector supervises two Titles and Mines Inspectors, located in the Cranbrook and Smithers Regional offices.
The Senior Titles and Mines Inspector leads investigations on statutory complaints, disputes, land use, and mining activity on mineral and coal titles pursuant to the delegated authorities of the Chief Gold Commissioner and the Chief Inspector of Mines. The Senior Titles and Mines Inspector monitors and reports on industry compliance with the Mineral Tenure Act, Coal Act, Mines Act and regulations under these Acts. The Senior Inspector provides investigative capacity and recommendations for the sale or disposal of abandoned machinery and equipment; reviews legal survey plans of mineral and placer titles as requested by the Surveyor General; maintains competency in global positioning system and digital mapping technologies as well as electronic field survey and related equipment. The Senior Inspector directs and coordinates the work of the Titles and Mines Inspectors and represents the Mineral Titles Branch in meetings with representatives of government, industry, and the public.
