The Ministry for Children and Family Development is one of the largest ministries in the BC Government. Its primary roles are to assist individuals and families in need and to ensure the safety and well-being of children. These services are provided after normal working hours, on weekends and statutory holidays, through After Hours. The Ministry operates an After Hours service on a 24 hour, 7 days per week shift schedule throughout the Province.

The After Hours Team Leader reports to the Director of Operations. The Team Leader is a position charged with the responsibility of ensuring that child welfare and protective services to children and families are delivered within Ministry mandate, policy and established standards. Child welfare and protective services are mandated under the following pieces of legislation – Child, Family and Community Services Act, Adoption Act, BC Benefits, Family Law Act.

In addition to providing child welfare and protective services to children and families after hours, as the Team Leader, you also provide the emergency response for the Ministry's other program areas.

The Team Leader directly supervises the team of After Hours Social Workers, and administrative staff on an emergency basis, and social workers in district offices when no other supervisor is available.

As Team Leader, you are responsible for ensuring that child welfare and protective services for children and families are consistently available and delivered within Ministry standards. A motivational leader for social workers, you provide training and mentorship to ensure staff members are knowledgeable, confident and ready to respond immediately to emergency situations. Concerned with the well-being of your team, you develop supportive relationships and are readily available to assist them, lowering stress levels and mitigating potential issues. Working proactively, you assist in the development of programs and services to meet community needs and promote public awareness and understanding of the services provided.
